Bachelor in Pharmaceuticals (B. Pharma)

Introduction

Bagmati Province University is proud to introduce the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program, a comprehensive and forward-thinking curriculum designed to shape the future of pharmaceutical education in Nepal. In response to the increasing demand for skilled pharmacists in the healthcare sector, this curriculum ensures a strong foundation in core pharmaceutical sciences, practical applications, and emerging technological advancements.

The program is meticulously developed to align with the guidelines set by the Medical Education Commission (MEC) and Nepal Pharmacy Council (NPC), ensuring that graduates meet national and international standards of pharmaceutical practice. By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, the curriculum empowers students to become competent healthcare professionals, researchers, and innovators in the field of pharmacy.

Recognizing the impact of technological advancements, the curriculum also introduces students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in pharmacy, preparing them to adapt to modern healthcare trends. This initiative enhances their ability to work with AI-driven drug discovery, precision medicine, and pharmaceutical automation, positioning them at the forefront of the evolving healthcare landscape.

Furthermore, the B. Pharm program provides a well-structured and professional pathway, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills for both immediate employment and higher education opportunities in specialized fields of pharmacy. With a blend of scientific expertise, ethical responsibility, and practical problem-solving abilities, this curriculum aims to produce highly skilled pharmacists who can contribute effectively to the healthcare system, pharmaceutical industries, and research sectors.

Objectives

The B. Pharm course is designed to produce highly competent, ethical, and skilled pharmacists capableofcontributingtothehealthcareandpharmaceuticalsectors.Thecurriculumisstructured to meet national and international standards while integrating technological advancements, includingArtificialIntelligence(AI),toenhancepharmaceuticaleducation.

Competencies to be achieved by B. Pharm graduates:

  1. Strong foundation in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacognosy.
  2. Proficiency in medication counseling, drug interactions, and patient-centered care.
  3. Knowledge of pharmaceutical laws, ethics, and professional standards.
  4. Ability to conduct scientific research, drug development, and
  5. Application of AI, health informatics, and digital tools in
  6. Skills in pharmaceutical marketing, supply chain management, and business strategies.
  7. Effective communication and teamwork with healthcare professionals and policymakers.
  8. Commitment to continuous education, evidence-based practice, and leadership.

Duration of the course

The duration will be of four academic years with two semesters per year.

Admission Criteria

The Medical Education Commission (MEC) governs all admission requirements and criteria for the B. Pharm program. Candidates must qualify through the Common Entrance Examination conducted by MEC for both scholarship and fee-paying categories while also meeting the admission criteria set by Bagmati Province University.

Eligibility requirements:

  1. Academic qualification:
    • Must have passed 10+2 Science (Biology Group) or equivalent, securing:
      • At least 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a minimum aggregate of 50% in total marks, OR
      • At least C+ grade separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a minimum C grade in remaining individual subjects and a GPA of 2.4, OR
      • Equivalent percentage in A-Level or other certificate-level programs with different grading systems
      • Alternatively, applicants who have completed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level in Pharmacy must have secured at least 50% aggregate marks.
  1. Professional registration:
    • Candidates must be registered with the Nepal Pharmacy Council as per their respective educational qualifications.

Number of student intake

The number of student intake will be as per the approved seats from the MEC.
