Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B)

Program Description

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) is a three-year postgraduate professional degree programme, offered by Bagmati Province University, Hetauda. This programme is designed for students who have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Being a postgraduate law programme, the LL.B. curriculum exclusively comprises law and law-related subjects.

The programme aims to provide students with sound theoretical knowledge of law, practical legal skills, and professional competence required for legal practice, judicial services, public administration, academia, and other law-related professions.

The curriculum is structured in line with national legal education standards, with due emphasis on:

  • Nepalese legal system
  • Comparative and international legal perspectives
  • Clinical and experiential learning
  • Legal research and professional ethics

The programme follows a year-wise structure with compulsory and optional subjects, ensuring both core legal competence and subject-area specialization.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the LL.B. programme are to:

  • To provide students with in-depth understanding of substantive and procedural laws, jurisprudence, constitutional principles, and international legal frameworks.
  • To enable students to analyze legal problems, interpret statutes and judicial decisions, and apply legal reasoning in diverse contexts.
  • To equip students with essential skills in legal drafting, pleading, conveyancing, advocacy, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution, through clinical courses and moot courts.
  • To develop competence in legal research methodology, academic writing, case analysis, and evidence-based legal argumentation.
  • To instill values of professional ethics, integrity, accountability, and social justice, in line with the standards of the legal profession.
  • To prepare graduates for careers as advocates, judicial officers, legal advisors, prosecutors, academicians, policy analysts, and other legal professionals.
  • To promote understanding of human rights, gender justice, inclusion, environmental protection, and the role of law in social transformation.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

Applicants seeking admission to the LL.B. (Three-Year) Programme of Bagmati Province University must fulfill the following requirements:

  • The applicant must have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution.
  • The applicant must have secured at least 40 percent aggregate marks at the Bachelor’s level.
  • For applicants from a grading system, a minimum of 1.6 CGPA at the Bachelor’s level is required.
  • The Bachelor’s degree must be completed prior to admission into the LL.B. programme.
  • Applicants must fulfill any additional admission requirements (such as entrance examination or interview) as prescribed by Bagmati Province University from time to time.

Full marks: 500

The total full marks for the LL.B. level is 1900, and a total of 37 subjects have been prepared. Of these, 20 subjects fall under the compulsory area and 17 subjects under the optional area. The total working hours allocated for the compulsory subjects is 125 hours (at 4 hours weekly), while the optional subjects are allocated 62 hours in total (at 2 hours weekly).
